Obituary for Bertha "Bert" Troester (Holtorf)

Bertha “Bert” Mae Holtorf was born the 3rd child to Carl and Mildred(Randahl) Holtorf on May 3, 1944 in Central City, NE. She attended District #94 for 2 years, then Hordville schools where she graduated in 1962. She attended KU for 2 years and graduated Grand Island School of Business. She worked at Equitable Building and Loan in Grand Island.

She married Omer Troester on September 25, 1965. She worked for Anderson Gustafson in Aurora and later they moved to Omaha, NE where they lived for 5 years. Then they moved to the Hordville area for 5 years and then to Hampton where their daughters graduated from high school. Bertha worked at Clark & Leach Insurance, and then worked and retired from the USPS as a supervisor. Later, she moved to Omaha to be closer to family and then to Fremont, NE.

She was very active in community work and won the “Good Neighbor Award” and “Lady of the Rose”. She taught Bible School and Sunday School and sang in the church choir. She was involved in Women’s Club, Red Cross, Lions Club, the Extension Council, Al-anon, TOPS Club (KOPS for more than 10 years), Cosmopolitan Club, After 5, Fremont Friendship Center and various card clubs.

Bertha is survived by her daughters; Teri (Dr. Bob) Cox and Amy Troester all of CA; two grandchildren, Eli and Katelyn Cox; sister, Celcia (Dick) Carnes of Marquette, brothers, Marx (Norma) Holtorf, Maynard (Peg) Holtorf all of Hordville, NE, sister -in-law, Marlene Holtorf; many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by parents; husband, Omer; brother, Walter.

Memorial Service is 11:00 AM, Monday, February 1, 2021 at First Lutheran Church In Fremont. Deacon Rick Strong will officiate. Visitation will begin 1 hr prior to the service. Burial at a later date in Hampton, NE.

Memorial may be directed to the Fremont Friendship Center, First Lutheran Church, and Hordville Fridhem Lutheran Church.
