Obituary for Eugene "Gene" Wiebelhaus
Eugene “Gene” Albert Wiebelhaus, 85 yrs, of Fremont, NE, passed away, Monday, July 24, 2023, at Nye Legacy in Fremont.
Gene was born December 27, 1937, in Fordyce, NE, to Anton and Gertrude (Marx) Wiebelhaus. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Norfolk, NE. Gene married Joan M. Legenza on April 28, 1962, at St. Bonaventure in Columbus, NE. They resided in Fremont and Gene worked at the former Stormor Inc. as Vice President of operations for 30 years. Later in life, Gene owned and operated the Omaha Ecowater business before retiring in 2002.
He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fremont and Knights of Columbus. Some of Gene’s favorite hobbies included golfing, fishing, bowling, playing bridge and poker. Gene was an avid football fan.
Gene is survived by his wife, Joan of Fremont; sons, Tim Wiebelhaus of Omaha and Chris (Lisa) Wiebelhaus of Kansas City, MO; daughter, Andrea (Matt) Fairchild of Papillion, NE; grandchildren, Britney Wiebelhaus and (Brian Lowe), Connor (Abi) Wiebelhaus, Zach (Macy Meyer) Wiebelhaus, and Abby and Chance Fairchild; great grandchildren, Addisyn Krenk, Liam, Emersyn, and Walker Wiebelhaus, and Scout Lowe; brothers in law, Jim Legenza, and William (Nancy) Legenza; sisters-law, Elsie Wiebelhaus, Marian Wiebelhaus and Carolyn Legenza; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 7 brothers; and 3 sisters; and brother in law, Robert Legenza.
Funeral Mass will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, July 27, 2023, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fremont. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Wednesday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont with a Knights of Columbus Living Rosary starting at 7:00 PM. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Fremont.
