Obituary for Harold "Jim" Porter

Harold F. “Jim” Porter, Jr. 81 of Fremont, Nebraska passed away Monday, November 7, 2022 at the Tabitha Journey House in Lincoln. He was born December 13, 1940 in Fremont to Harold F. and Ruth (Wilch) Porter, Sr.

Jim grew up in Fremont and graduated from Fremont Senior High School in 1958. Jim married Karen Callaway October 30, 1975 in Fremont. He worked in construction prior to entering the US Navy in 1964. He served during Vietnam and on the destroyer USS Henderson until his tour was over in 1966. He returned to Fremont and worked for Stormor for 30 years and then the Fremont Middle School for another 30 years retiring in 2020.

Jim is survived by his sons, Todd (Terri Hinrichsen) Porter of Hot springs, South Dakota, and Brian (Laura) Porter of Valley, NE; daughters, Cheri Grefe of Fremont and Staci Briggs and fiancé Donny Larson of Omaha; stepson, Mike Goldsberry of Papillion, NE; brother, Larry (Margie) Porter of Fremont; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Karen; and granddaughter, Jessica.

Memorial Service will be 10 A.M., Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Rev. Sean Tyler will officiate. Memorial Visitation will be from 5-7 P.M., Tuesday also at Moser’s in Fremont. Interment and military honors conducted by the Fremont Honor Guard of VFW Post #854 and American Legion Post #20 will be at Ridge Cemetery in Fremont.

Memorials are suggested to Tabitha Journey House in Lincoln.
