Obituary for James "Jim" Fisher

James “Jim” L. Fisher, 68, of Linwood, NE., passed away Thursday, December 17, 2020., at his home. Jim was born February 16, 1952 in Fremont, NE., to Burton and Helen (Kimball) Fisher. He married Barb Marchant on April 1, 1991. Jim spent over 30 years in his career as a truck driver. Early on, he hauled thoroughbred horses to race tracks across the United States. After the birth of his son, he looked for short distance or local truck driving opportunities, and worked hauling food, refuse, and other products. Immediately prior to his retirement, he worked driving a fuel truck in the Burlington Northern Santa Fe rail-yard in Lincoln, NE, where he refueled diesel engines.

In his younger years, Jim raced stock cars and had an interest in all things NASCAR. Later in life, he took up golfing and enjoyed playing recreationally. He was a classic film buff. Jim’s knowledge of classic and western movies was extensive, and he could discuss a wide range of little known facts related to such films and the actors and actresses who appeared in them. He was also a fan of professional football and could be counted on over the years to always root for the Miami Dolphins to win. Jim followed college football as well, as rarely missed seeing the Nebraska Cornhuskers play a televised game.

Jim had an easy going demeanor and was given the gift of gab. He could strike up conversations easily and find something to discuss with any person who happened to cross his path. He enjoyed playing golf with his son, attending plays and concerts with his wife, and his younger sister will miss the political rants they exchanged during phone calls.

Survivors include his wife, Barb Fisher of Linwood, NE.; son, Jacob Fisher of Linwood, NE.; sister, Brenda Fisher of Lincoln, NE.; and nephew, Sean Fisher of Scottsbluff, NE.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Burton and Helen Fisher; brother, David Fisher and stepmother, Hattie Mae Fisher.

There are no services planned at this time.
