Obituary for James Keeler

James W. Keeler, 91 years of Fremont, NE passed away Sunday, April 10, 2022 at Nye Legacy in Fremont. He was born on May 23, 1930 in rural Valley, NE to Clyde and Hazel (Walraven) Keeler.

James grew up at Yutan and Valley, moving to Fremont after graduating from high school in 1947. He married Carolyn Fishel on September 2, 1950 at North Bend. After a short time working for Hormel in Fremont, Jim spent most of his life farming. First near Valley and then Linwood. When retiring from farming they moved to Schuyler where he was a truck driver for Husker COOP, which allowed him to continue time in rural areas, among the local farmers. After Carolyn’s passing he married Muriel (Monke) Ringle and moved to Fremont and still continued trucking. At 80 he decided it was time to fully retire. Many trips and much traveling were enjoyed in his later years along with his love for bowling and card playing.

James was a member of Salem Lutheran Church of Fontanelle. He served on the Linwood School District board for several years, Platte Township of Butler County board, and was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church in Schuyler.

He is survived by his wife, Muriel of Fremont; daughters, Lisa Renner-Ellermeier (Randy Kremlacek) of Linwood, NE and Linda (Dennis) Brichacek of Schuyler, NE; son, Terry (Rebecca) Keeler of Houston, TX; 4 step-children, John (Sandy) Ringle, James Ringle (Tracy Landis), Joni Ringle Tyner (Mark) & Jay (Lori) Ringle; sister, Leatha Mumm of Yutan, NE; 6 grandchildren, Brad (Sandy) Renner, Stacey (Shawn) Wieseman, Brian (Gina) Renner, Tim (Shannon) Renner, Tina McFadden & Jessicah (Shane) Prittchet; 5 step-grandchildren, Paige (Ben) Strobbe, Andrew Tyner (Mary McConnell), Rachel Tyner, Blake (Alex) Suurvarik & Barrett Ringle; 13 great-grandchildren, Isaac Strobbe, Molly & Maddy Renner, Norah, Claire, Henry, Ellorie, John Renner, Jake Wieseman, Alexis, Sophia, Kayden & Lizzy Renner; and 2 great-great-grandchildren, Kloee & Ronan Bernardy.

James was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carolyn; sisters, Bettie Keeler & Joyce Sievers; brothers, Richard, Dale & Glen Keeler; 2 sons-in-law, Ellory Renner, and Dean Ellermeier.

Funeral will be 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at Salem Lutheran Church of Fontanelle, NE. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5-7 P.M., at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Interment will be at Woodland Cemetery in North Bend, NE after the lunch.
