John Thomas Hashberger Jr, son of Thomas Hashberger and Jessie (Kyler) Hashberger was born in Schuyler, Nebraska on August 10. 1934. John spoke fondly of his childhood friends from Schuyler to include stories of the Oborny twins and Donnie Salek. John was pretty onery as he got into his teens years and was in and out of trouble and mischief. The decision to join the Navy was chosen as to avoid being sent to a boys school. (As told by John himself). John was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia.

John met Gladys Marie Leeper through his sister Audrey. John came home on leave and was introduced to Gladys, from there they struck up a long distance relationship with lots of letters between the two. John married Gladys Marie Leeper April 29, 1953 in Fremont, Nebraska while he was on leave. John worked at a variety of jobs after his honorable discharge from the United States Navy to include Ready Mix Concrete, Millard; Lyann Richie, Fremont; Western Electric, Millard; Stauffer Chemical, Omaha; Iowa Beef Packers, West Point; Dodge Dairy, Dodge; Union Pacific Rail Crew, Fremont. John enjoyed scraping off and on throughout his life as well as a good day or night fishing, a good poker game, a black cup of coffee, a smoke and a cold red beer. John knew no strangers and could strike up a conversation with anyone.

John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Gladys of 42 years, (8) sisters, countless friends and extended relatives. John lost his brother Robert (Bobbie) Hashberger; who passed away on the same day as John, hours apart.

Survivors include: Michael (Janet Rostrom) Hashberger-Wenatchee, Washington, Debra (Marvin) Hassler-Madison, Nebraska, Thereasa (Russell) Stewart-Wamego, Kansas, Jeffrey (wife Angie Wolfe) Hashberger-West Point, Nebraska, Rodney (Kristina Bartlett) Hashberger-Dodge, Nebraska, Barbara (Jordan) Sanders-Fishers, Indiana, John is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends and his sister Hallie Knapp.

Honorary pallbearers are:
Chris Hassler, Curtis Hassler, Bradley Stewart, Jared Hashberger, Dalton Hashberger, Tanner Schrock, Douglas Dietrich and Bobby Bernheisel.

A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at 10:00 am at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont, Nebraska. John will join Gladys in inurnment at Bohemian National Cemetery east of Dodge, Nebraska.
