Obituary for Marlene Thege (Fencl)

Marlene J. Thege, 85 years, of Clarkson, NE formerly North Bend, NE passed away Friday, May 3, 2024 at the Clarkson Community Care Center in Clarkson.

Marlene was born on August 16, 1938 to Charles and Lillian (Kavan) Fencl at Morse Bluff, NE. She was confirmed at the Cedar Hill Catholic Church and attended school at District 54, south of Morse Bluff. In 1956, she graduated from North Bend High School. After high school, she attended Midland College in Fremont, NE and received her teaching certificate. She taught at District 77 for two years. On February 15, 1958, Marlene married Clarence Thege at the Prague Presbyterian Church in Prague, NE. Through the years, Marlene and her husband farmed, raised livestock, and grew large gardens. In 1985, they moved to North Bend. From 1980 to 2006, Marlene worked at Birchwood Manor as a CNA and Med Aid. She loved her job. She was a resident of Birchwood Manor from 2017 to 2019. In 2019, Marlene moved to Clarkson.

She was a member of Polly Pigtails So Sewers Club and President in 1947, Linwood Extension Club, lifetime member of the North Bend VFW Auxiliary Post 8223 and Morse Bluff American Legion Auxiliary Post 340 and the Prague Presbyterian Church Ladies Guild. Marlene taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School for many years, and member of the Faithful Mariners group at church with her husband Clarence. Marlene also assisted with the care of Pam and John’s foster children.

Marlene was preceded by her parents; husband, Clarence; sister, Maxine (Eugene) Wesely; sister-in-law, Ruby (Kucera) Matties Wesely; brother-in-laws, Richard Thege, Raynold Thege, Donald Thege, George (Mary Ann) Thege; nephews, David and Marcus Thege; Cheryl’s special friend David Sliva Sr. and his daughter Lisa Sliva.
She is survived by son, Robert Thege; daughters, Cheryl Thege and Pam (John) Eggleston; grandchildren, Janessa Eggleston (Marco Rameriz), Lincoln, Jasavier, Jaslyn, Gabriella, Taya Lemus and Tegan Lemus; extended grandchildren, David Sliva and son Braxtin, Ryan Sliva and son Tanner, Aaron Nelson, Jamie Nelson Culver and daughter Aubree; sister-in-laws, Pauline Thege and Alyce Thege; and many other nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Service will be 10 A.M., Friday, May 10, 2024 at the First Presbyterian Church in Schuyler, NE. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend, NE. Visitation will continue 1 hour prior to the service at church.

Burial will take place at the Prague Presbyterian Cemetery near Prague, NE.
