Obituary for Naomi Schere

Naomi A. Schere, age 91 of Cedar Bluffs, Nebraska, passed away Friday, January 29, 2021 at Methodist Fremont Health in Fremont. She was born September 25, 1929 in Amelia, NE to Reinhold and Alma Dorothea (Harley) Knutzen.

In the 2nd grade Naomi's family moved to the farm near Cedar Bluffs, NE. She has resided there ever since. She graduated from Cedar Bluffs High School in 1947. Naomi married William W. Schere on February 22, 1948 at Cedar Bluffs. William preceded her in death on February 14, 1986.

She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Cedar Bluffs and had taught Sunday school and vacation bible school for many years and was a former financial secretary (first female) at church. She was a member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. Naomi worked for Schere’s Grocery Store in Cedar Bluffs, at JC Penny in the accounting department for 10 years and Cedar Bluffs Schools for 23 years. She then managed the Cedar Bluffs Senior Center for a number of years.

She is survived by her sons, Matthew (Diane) Schere of Fremont and George (Missy) Schere of Waverly, NE; daughters, Cathy (Robert) Hansen of Cedar Bluffs, and Peggy (Larry) Yount of Fremont; brother, Larry (Rida) Knutzen of Cedar Bluffs; sisters, Dorothy (John) Fristoe of Silver Springs, Maryland and Joyce (Steve) Felton of Fremont; 10 grandchildren, Missy (Tim) Shanahan, Sally (Angie) Hansen-Holdren, Ben (Dawn) Hansen, Seth (Sara) Yount, Logan (Jessica) Schere, Libby Schere, Grant Schere, Connor Schere, Jett Schere and Lyncoln Schere and 11 great grandchildren, Carson Shanahan, Skylar Shanahan, Emersyn Shanahan, Reid Shanahan, Taylor Hansen, Gwen Hansen, Addison Hansen-Holdren, Colton Hansen-Holdren, Owen Yount, Nora Yount and Eva Yount.

Naomi was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William; brother, Donald Knutzen; sisters, Evelyn (Bernard) Franta and Carolyn (Roger) Scheidt; great-granddaughter, Halle Yount; mother and father-in-law, Verena and George Schere; brother-in-law, Jack Schere; and sister-in-law, Arlene Hunt.

Funeral will be 10:30 A.M., Thursday, February 4, 2021 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Cedar Bluffs. Rev. Mark Weber will officiate. Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 4-7 P.M. at Moser Memorial Chapel in Cedar Bluffs. Masks are required. Visitation will continue on Thursday, 1 hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorials are suggested to St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Cedar Bluffs, Nebraska.

Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, Cedar Bluffs, NE.
