Obituary for Terry Phillips

Terence Michael Phillips, 73, passed away Friday, October 21, 2022, at Nebraska Medicine Hospital in Omaha, NE. He was born on December 16, 1948, to Leonard and Annora (Stump) Phillips in David City, NE.

Terry grew up in David City, graduating from David City Aquinas in 1967. He moved to Denver, Co to attend electronics school. It is here that Terry worked at McDonald’s and claimed to have made the first ever Big Mac. While in Denver, Terry lost his wallet and had to reorder all his personal records, including a draft card. Shortly after, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served as a cook and parts clerk in the Vietnam War. After leaving the war, Terry moved to Fremont, NE where he began work as a computer operator, eventually working for First National Bank of Omaha for 30+ years.

To say that Terry was a huge fan of the Yankees, Celtics, and Huskers would be an understatement. But as much as he loved sports, his love for his grandchildren was like no other. Anyone could tell that by all the pictures of his grandchildren hanging on the walls of his house. He would never miss one of their school activities or sporting events.

Terry is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Michael and JoDell Phillips, and their children, Kylie and Brandt. Daughter and son-in-law, Jaymie and Michael Thorson, and their children, Liam, Adalyn, and Jack. Daughter, Brenna Phillips and former wife, Janice Phillips. Sister Mary Ann Bullard, brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Jeri Phillips, brother Leon Phillips, and sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Randy Hiemer.

Terry is preceded in death by parents, Leonard and Annora Phillips, brother-in-law, John Bullard, and granddaughter, Reese Thorson.

Visitation is scheduled from 1:00-2:00 pm, Friday, Oct 28, 2022, at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont, followed by service at 2:00 pm. Terry will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in Fremont, NE.
