Obituary for Wanda Ortmeier (Spies)

Wanda Jule Ortmeier, 75 of Fontanelle, Nebraska passed away Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Methodist Fremont Health surrounded by her family. She was born February 15, 1947 in Dodge, NE to Bernard and Darlene (Chudomelka) Spies.

Wanda grew up in rural Dodge and graduated from Dodge High School in 1965. She attended college for a few years then married Ric Ortmeier June 21, 1967 in Lincoln. She raised five children and helped Ric with his business for over 40 years. They lived in Omaha for 15 years prior to moving to the Arlington area in 1984 where they remain to this day.

Wanda was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fremont. Wanda loved gardening, flowers, birds, reading, cooking Czech & German food and world travel--especially her trip to the Holy Land. Closest to her heart were her family, close friends, 11 grandchildren who called her “Grandy” and her deep faith in God which she shared with her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband Ric Ortmeier of Fontanelle, NE; sons, Steven (Tiffany) Ortmeier of San Diego, CA and Jeff Ortmeier of Bennington, NE; daughters, Annie Ortmeier and Joseph Kustelski of Nashville, TN and Lindsay (Timothy) Anderson of Sutton, NE; brothers, Gary (Sheryl) Spies of Fremont and Jeff (Tammy) Spies of Mullen, NE; brothers-in law, Harold Ortmeier of Blair, NE and Wilbert Throener of West Point, NE; sister-in-law, Deana Mark of Denver, CO; and 11 grandchildren – Caden, Tristen, Allison, Eric, Emily, Adelyn, Rex, Grace, Crew, Bo and Evelyn.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents and son, Christopher Ortmeier.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 A.M., Saturday, February 18, 2023 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fremont. Visitation will be on Friday from 5-7 P.M., and a Rosary will be at 7 P.M., also at St. Patrick’s. Interment will be 1:30 P.M., Saturday at the Hartung Cemetery at Camp Fontanelle.

Memorials can be made to the family who will designate to various Catholic charities.
